Bonsai
In June
2009, I bought another viewing stone. It has a crack in
the right side and split in the diaz stand, but still I
liked it and so does Lucky Dog.

These were my silent auction winnings and a couple
freebies after repotting.
Here's a new addition - a korean hornbeam from NE Bonsai.
This dwarf pomegrante and dwarf fuschia came from a California
greenhouse - hope they make it!
MAY
2009
Another
winter passed, along with the loss of several plants. Mostly
elms and a couple little boxwoods who I didn't keep warm
enough from the start.
The
forest is really hurting, not sure if it will survive, but
I'll give it a shot.
Also,
my trident didn't come back after a dastic pruning by Marty
in an attempt to get some lower branching.
I repotted last years new boxwood, and cleaned off the
sand from the outside plants.
I bought a brazilian raintree last fall from NE Bonsai.
It is thorny and has nice branching. I closes up at night
like a mimosa.
The little cascade pot with the rosemary plant can't be
used for bonsai since the ink runs.
The ficus had a bad case of scale, I'm not sure it will
make it back either.
I bought this cavatine dwarf andromeda plant, I liked the
white flowers and spikey leaves.
One of my shimpaku bit the dust after I wired it.
Two of the boxwoods in the right photo didn't survive the
repotting. Of course, they were the nicer ones.
My jasmine almost didn't make it - now it has a large gin.
The elm budded early and got some black fungus and pink
galls. After spraying it, most of the leaves dropped off.
I hope it makes it.
John Romano gave me a good idea on how to keep the roots
covered on the 3 boxwood tray, use a rock with some muck
to build up the side.
The parsley trio came from work, not sure they will make
it either.

I had to repot the willow, it became root bound in one
year! The rug juniper came through the winter okay - only
a small top branch gone.
The brush cherry and natal plum were repotted and are doing
well.
The lions head maple came back nicely after it's Nov. major
pruning. The olive plant is still borderline. The other
maples and
junipers came through okay.
